Trees have always been the main source of cellulose fibers used in the production of paper and cardboard, although these fibers may also be of animal, synthetic or mineral origin. Fortunately, there is another way of obtaining the pulp fibers used in pulp production: by using old paper and cardboard that are no longer useful (reduce, reuse and recycle).
On average, the paper / cardboard can be recycled up to 5 times, depending on the number of virgin fiber used in the first production and the quality of the paper and cardboard that is used in the recycling process.
Fortunately, in our day to day, we already consume several products from recycled papwr and cardboard. An example of this is the innumerable carton boxes and packaging produced by José Neves to pack and protect the several products and articles that come to you as the final consumer.
It’s also important to mention that in the case of 100% virgin paper (without any percentage of recycled paper), José Neves has partners whose paper pulp is produced from managed forests as part of a sustainable forest management policy that preserves the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and is currently implementing this certification. FSC certification ensures that products come from well-managed forests, offering several benefits (environmental, social and economic).
Did you know that 1 ton of recycled paper or cardboard saves 15 to 20 trees, consumes less energy and water in the manufacturing process, and releases lowers CO2 emissions into the atmosphere? But it’s not only this… it also consumes less oxygen, an essential element for human life.
If you still don’t separate the paper and cardboard from your household waste, please think about it and start doing it. This gesture will make the difference and help your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to live in a healthier world.
And as today is the International Day of Forests, plant a tree. At José Neves we already planted (check the picture). As Warren Buffett said, “someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
